The Great War 1914 – 1919


Every family was touched by the effects of WWI. Sons, brothers, husbands or fathers. Many hundreds of men from Chesterfield and surrounding areas served in the armed forces. But those left behind also contributed to the collective effort. We owe them all our gratitude.

Here are some of the personal and family stories discovered by our members during their research.


Absent Voters List..

This document is testimony to the scale of the conflict.

It lists those registered to vote, but absent from home, together with their home address. It also gives their supposed address, indicating that most were serving with the armed forces.
